Facebook Advertising – A New Era of Marketing
Posted on April 23, 2012 by Adnan Mushtaq in Social Media
Facebook has given a total new dimension to the concept of social media. It has changed the way people interact with each other and also the way businesses are run. As of earlier 2012, Facebook boasts over having more than 845 million active users and this means if you are not using Facebook as a part of your online marketing campaign, you are leaving a highly potential consumer market completely untapped.
The marketing efforts on Facebook are done mainly through Facebook advertising. These ads are placed on the right hand pane on Facebook users’ home, profile and other pages. These ads are a combination of a title, a brief description and an image that accompanies the ad to attract Facebook users that are highly image driven.
These ads work by recommending users to become fans of a particular page, group or application etc. To become a fan you do not have to visit the page itself but just click on the ‘Become a Fan’ button displayed on the ad and that’s it.
Facebook also allows you to use these ads to direct Facebook users to your website and gain potentially convertible traffic right at your homepage. If you want to make your Facebook presence felt as well, you can make use of a variety of marketing options given by Facebook like Groups, Pages, Applications or Events. These options help you create your presence on Facebook and using this social media giant as part of your comprehensive search engine optimization and Internet marketing campaigns.
Why advertising through Facebook seems so convincing is that Facebook uses targeting factors that could be narrowed down to the precise population of Facebook users you want to market to. Demographics are easy to select, but when you thrown in the added advantage of basing your target market on gender, age, relationship status, workplace, education and interests you get a target market that is sophistically selected and thus gives your marketing efforts more boom.
When it comes to budgeting, Facebook ads are quite similar to those of Google AdWords. You have to bid for the best and most competitive keywords and that will decide its cost. You can select a CPC or a CPM model – the latter of which is concerned with the views your ad gets. Initially, try at low budget and test if it works. If the results you receive are profitable for the business, you can increase the budget and so on.
Before launching your Facebook advertising campaign, do make sure that you have run different versions of your ads to determine which one works better and gets you more clicks and visits. Testing this is quite easy as Facebook allows you to run different ad versions for the betterment of your business.
Rounding it all up, we are not saying that Facebook advertising is taking over Google ads. But this is definitely introducing a new era of marketing, especially for the Internet. Therefore, make sure that you are completely familiar with the concept of Facebook’s power over advertising and use it to your advantage.
